Course Description & Info

Course Description: This course is intended for Caterpillar dealership and Customer technicians.   The course will cover changes from Tier 4 Interim Engines to the more advanced Tier 4 Final Emissions System Diagnostics with the new Selective Catalytic Reduction and Diesel Exhaust Fluid Aftertreatment system.  The Aftertreatment Air System, Fuel System, Operator Interface System, and the Aftertreatment System Diagnostics will be covered.  With the use of Caterpillar Electronic Technician, the technician will apply diagnostic troubleshooting techniques, using the appropriate diagnostic tooling and service information.  The technicians will perform verification and functionality tests as well as electrical/electronic troubleshooting, testing, and adjusting procedures to correct various faults within the various Aftertreatment systems on the Tier 4 Final engines.  The technician will be observed while performing diagnostic procedures and repair techniques, and asked to explain the logical actions taken to find and correct the root cause of the problem.  This course will be a minimum of 70 percent Lab exercise (hands-on with the iron).

At The Completion of This Lesson, You Will Be Able To:                   

Prerequisites: Engines 1, Electrical 1, Machine Electronics, the ability to use ET and SIS, the ability to read a Caterpillar Electrical schematic, and use a Fluke 87 Digital Multimeter, or equivalent tooling. 

Passing Score:

Suggested Participants: Any technician who will be expected to work on repair or diagnose Tier 4 Final Emissions and Aftertreatment systems.

Notes:  Participants are required to bring work clothes, safety glasses, and work shoes to this class.  Participants will be in the shop performing hands-on work.
