Course Description & Info

Course Description: This course covers current federal and industry regulations, the proper handling and storage of R-134a and R-1234yf refrigerants, air conditioning theory and systems operation, refrigerant recovery, evacuating, and recharging procedures, testing and adjusting procedures, diagnostic procedures, and the electrical system. Approximately 40% of the course time will be in the classroom, and 60% will be in the shop. The ASE 609 certification course will be administered through MACs.

At The Completion of This Lesson, You Will Be Able To:                   

• Perform exercises using the electronic leak detector, refrigerant recovery equipment, refrigerant flushing equipment, refrigerant recycling equipment, gauge manifold, vacuum pump, refrigerant charging station, and various tools and fittings. 
• Locate the components of the air conditioning system on any Caterpillar equipment.
• Trace the refrigerant flow throughout the system and state the function of all components.
• Recover and recycle refrigerant, leak test the system, flush the system, evacuate the system, and charge the system.
• Explain the difference between the R-134a and R-1234yf systems.
• Explain the current federal and industry regulations for technicians working on mobile air conditioning equipment.

Prerequisites: CUST-ACSL01

Notes:  Participants are required to bring work clothes, safety glasses, and work shoes to this class.  Participants will be in the shop performing hands-on work.
