Caterpillar-certified Training Now Available to Customers





Yancey offers a wide variety of Caterpillar-certified training classes and self-instruction courses for customers and other Caterpillar dealers. All training is taught by members of the Yancey Training Center.

Yancey has been designated as Caterpillar's Southeastern United States Regional Training Center. With this appointment, Yancey will now serve as the lead dealer in teaching Training Instructors and Dealer Technicians from Cat dealerships across the southeastern United States.

All instruction and on-iron training will be conducted at the Yancey Training Center, located inside the Yancey Technical Center on our Cobb County corporate campus. The Training Center is equipped with the latest in interactive and computer-based technical training modules from Caterpillar. Large classrooms, ample on-iron shop space and four full-time Training Instructors allow Yancey to provide the best training program in the industry. All of the Yancey Training Instructors have years of experience in heavy equipment and power systems mechanics as well as being certified by Caterpillar to teach the classes offered.

The two types of classes offered to customers by Yancey are On-Iron & Technical Training and Computer Based Training (CBT).

On-Iron & Technical Training Classes
Yancey Bros. Co. offers 11 advanced classes dealing with heavy equipment maintenance and repair. Each class deals with specific Caterpillar systems, from engines to electrical to hydraulics. Students should be prepared for both classroom and on-iron training during the class.
  • 3116 Diesel Engine & Injection System -Principles of operations, nomenclature, familiarization and maintenance tips of the engine. Fuel system operation and on iron adjustments.
  • 33O6B Diesel Engine & Injection System - Principles of operation, nomenclature and familiarization of timing, fuel control with emphasis on the injection pump and maintenance tips. Portions of this class will be on the Iron.
  • 34O6B Diesel Engine & Injection System - Principles of operation, nomenclature and familiarization of timing, fuel control with emphasis on the injection pump and maintenance tips. Portions of this class will be on the Iron.
  • H-Series Motorgrader Hydraulics - System operation, nomenclature, with emphasis on hydraulic system pump and valves operations. On the Iron testing and adjusting of the complete system along with ISO schematics and service manual.
  • Preventive Maintenance - Proper maintenance procedures, maintenance tips, correct method of taking oil samples. Covers cooling, hydraulic engine and powertrain systems.
  • Machine Electricity & Diagnostics - Course covers law of electricity, battery fundamentals, alternators, starters, computer control for warning systems. Electrical test equipment, schematics, wiring systems. Testing and trouble shooting electrical system on machine and in the classroom.
  • Hydrostatic Loader - Nomenclature, system operation with emphasis on the theory on hydrostatic power units and oil flow. Student will learn basic troubleshooting and adjustments on the Iron.
  • M & R Track Type Tractor Power Train System - Nomenclature, system operation, with emphasis on power training system testing, adjusting and troubleshooting. Portions of this course will be spent on the Iron.
  • Diesel Engine Diagnostic - Covers Troubleshooting procedures on Caterpillar diesel engines. Includes the use of diagnostic tooling. The majority of the time will be spent on the Iron. Student should at least one other engine class prior to attending this class.
  • Hydraulic Excavators 3OO Series - This course provides training for the system operation of the pumps, pump controls. The hydraulic system and the electronic control unit (ECU). Systems operation is taught using schematics with graphic symbols.
  • Backhoe Loaders 416C ? 438C - Course covers systems. Major components, and features of the C series Backhoe Loader. Hydraulic system testing and adjusting. ISO schematics and the Service Manual use will be emphasized on the Iron.
Computer Based Training (CBT)
Yancey Bros. Co. offers 5 Interactive Self-Instruction courses produced by Caterpillar. These courses cover Fundamentals of: Diesel Engines, Mobile Hydraulics, Electric Systems, Applied Failure Analysis and Power Train. Each course allows the students to move at their own pace as they advance through the modules. The courses will pre and post test the technicians on each of the technical modules. The classes offered are:
  • Fundamentals of Diesel Engines - The overall objective of this course is to provide students with basic information that will prepare them for additional training on maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing diesel engines. The course is comprised of Module I - a Course Introduction that explains how the course is structured and the content of each module, and 3 technical modules. Module II - Diesel Engine Basics, Module Ill - Engine Systems, and Module IV - General Maintenance Procedures. The Diesel Engine CBT course takes an average of 8 hours to complete.
  • Fundamentals of Mobile Hydraulics - This course explores the function, wear and failure of hydraulic systems, and the options for repairing them. The course is comprised of Module 1 - a Course Introduction that includes an overview of the entire course and a description of the various control and reference options available throughout the course, and 4 technical modules. Module II - Basic Hydraulic Concepts, Module III - Components, Module IV -Schematics, and Module V - Systems. The Mobile Hydraulics Course takes an average of 18 hours to complete.
  • Fundamentals of Electric Systems - This course covers basic electrical concepts, diagnostic tools, circuits and troubleshooting. The course is comprised of Module 1 - a Course Introduction that includes an overview of the entire course and a description of the various control and reference options available throughout the course and 6 technical modules. Module II - Basic Electrical Concepts, Module Ill - Diagnostic Tools, Module IV -Troubleshooting, Module V - Lighting Systems, Module VI - Starting Systems and Module VII - Charging Systems. The Electric System Course takes an average of 35 hours to complete.
  • Fundamentals of Drive trains - This course covers the design and operation of drive train components in earth moving equipment from the torque converter to the final drives. Wheel and track type machines, and conventional as well as hydraulic and hydrostatic drive trains are covered in depth. The course is comprised of 4 technical modules. Module - Torque Converters and Torque Dividers, Module II - Transmissions and Transfer Gears, Module III -Axles and Lower Drive train Systems and Module IV Hydraulic Drive Systems. The Drive train course takes an average of 26 hours to complete.
  • Fundamentals of Applied Failure Analysis - This course introduces a structured process for analyzing a failure, determining its root cause and taking the appropriate remedial action. The course is comprised of Module I - a Course Introduction that helps the student understand how an effective failure analysis process enhances a technicians ability to make the proper repairs the first time. There are 5 technical modules that follow. Module II - Metallurgy, Module Ill - Analyzing Fractures, Module IV - Analyzing Wear, Module V - Visual Examination, and Module VI -Managing Failure Analysis. The Applied Failure Analysis course takes an average of 28 hours to complete.
Course / Class Information
CBT Courses: are available at the Yancey Training Center and will be scheduled in 2 or 4 hour increments depending on CBT availability.

Class Hours: Unless other wise indicated, all scheduled classes will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Safety: Students must observe Yancey's safety requirements. Appropriate clothing required (no shorts or tank tops). Safety glasses and leather shoes must be worn during shop portion of the class.

Enrollment: All scheduled classes have limited enrollment. Advance enrollment is recommended. Classes must have a minimum of four enrollments or they will be rescheduled.

Fees: Appropriate payment arrangements should be made in advance. Fees include materials, lecture time, demonstration and "On the Iron" training.

Cancellations: There is no fee for cancellations made 7 days before the scheduled class. There is a fee of $200.00 for cancellation if less than 6 days notice is given.
