Fluid Analysis

Caterpillar Fluid Analysis, also know as Scheduled Oil Sampling, is a program developed by Caterpillar and Yancey Bros. Co. geared toward predicting potential trouble in industrial and mobile equipment through fluid analysis. Each S-O-S test provides three types of diagnostic tests:

Wear analysis - monitors machine wear by detecting, identifying, and assessing the amounts and types of metal wear elements found in used oil.
Chemical and physical tests - detect the physical presence of unwanted fluids (water, fuel, antifreeze) in the oil.
Oil condition analysis - identifies loss of lubricating properties by quantifying combustion by-products (soot, sulfur, oxidation, and nitration products).

Each of these tests help our Fluid Lab Technicians identify warning signs that can indicate if something is wrong inside your engine. The earlier these problems are detected, the easier (and less expensive) they are to repair.

By keeping accurate records of regular oil sampling, Yancey Fluid Lab Technician can look for trends in your oil analysis. Often, a single sampling cannot tell the whole story. By comparing sampling trends, we can see a bigger picture of what is occurring inside your machine.

Yancey Bros. Co. has everything you need to take an fluid analysis sample. The sampling process is quick and easy and should always occur when fluids are at operating temperature. When taking a sample, remember to fill out the sample bottle label very carefully. This information is as important as the oil in the bottle. Without a correctly filled bottle label, accurate interpretation of the data is near impossible.
