Challenger® Outperforms Competition

In October 2005, a Challenger® MT665B took the challenge from a John Deere® 8420, a Case® MX 285 and a New Holland® TG 285. When the dust settled, the Challenger MT665B, equipped with the TECHstar CVT transmission, came out on top in both the deep tillage and secondary tillage challenge. Not only did the Challenger cover more acres per hour, but it used less fuel to do it . . . much less . . . saving you thousands of dollars per year.

Results like these are becoming more and more common for farmers throughout the US and Canada. The combination of the Challenger “Endurance” engine and the Challenger “TechStar” continuously variable transmission (CVT) are primarily responsible for this industry-leading performance. This engine/transmission combination was designed by Challenger engineers to provide the highest levels of performance and reliability.

The tests conducted in this fuel challenge included a dynamometer test, measuring drawbar pull using Power Link Drawbar and wheel slip under maximum drawbar pull, and a timed road run with fuel use.  The tests also included measurements of the tractors’ acres per hour in deep and shallow cultivation.

For all tests the same fuel was used; agricultural red diesel with one gallon weighing 7.284 pound.  The tractors’ fuel tanks were disconnected and the fuel lines were plumbed to external tanks to assure accurate readings.  Before and after each test the fuel tanks were weighed and the fuel temperatures were measured.

To assure accurate fuel readings, all tractors were weighed (front, rear and total) and the tire pressures were adjusted in accordance with the manufacturers’ recommendations for those weights.  Also, all tractors were run up to normal operating temperatures prior to the tests being run.

After all the tests and measurements, the Challenger MT665B proved to save a considerable amount of fuel over the competitive equipment.  The MT665B could easily have a noticeable impact on the profitability of an entire season for your operations.
