Challenger Launches the New MT900B Series Articulated Tractor

With the introduction of the new Challenger MT900B Series four-wheel-drive tractors, Yancey Ag Products is once again representing a machine that is pushing limits and breaking records. This time, it’s for the industry’s largest production 4-wheel-drive articulated tractor.

Available in four model sizes from 430 to a record 570 engine horsepower, the Challenger MT900B Series tractors are proving to be market leaders from their first days in the field. Performance features include a rugged Caterpillar ACERT™ technology engine; a Cat® engineered and tested 16FX4R powershift transmission, and Challenger’s exclusive Tractor Management Center that gives the operator unparalleled control of the machine and the operation.

According to Kerry Glass, sales manager for Yancey’s Agricultural Products division, much of the MT900B Series’ power and performance can be attributed to Caterpillar® ACERT engines, which easily adhere to Tier III compliance without sacrificing efficiency, durability or reliability. The Challenger MT945B and MT955B tractors each use the 928 cubic inch Cat C15 ACERT engine to achieve 400 and 460 horsepower respectively. The two largest models in the series boast a massive 1,105 cubic inch Cat C18 ACERT diesel engine that cranks out 510 horsepower in the MT965B and 570 horsepower in the MT975B.

“With up to 42% PTO torque rise, the Cat C15 and C18 ACERT engines deliver exceptional pulling power in all conditions,” Glass says. “In the meantime, eight gears in the popular 4 to 9.3 mph operating range ensure responsiveness and productivity to match any application.”

As Glass explains, the MT900B also incorporates Challenger’s unique Load Independent Flow Division (LIFD) hydraulic system for exceptional lift capacity. With a standard flow rate of 43.5 gpm and the option of 59 gpm, LIFD ensures proportional oil flow to all circuits when the system is operating at full potential.

Safe and Comfortable Operation
The MT900B Series doesn’t come up short on creature comforts, either. All models boast 108 cubic feet of interior space, which is more cubic feet of luxury than all other tractors in their power class. Adding to the excellent visibility is 67.5 square feet of usable glass area and a short, sloping engine hood. Other comfort and convenience amenities include an air-suspension seat, a standard four-speaker sound system, Challenger’s Surround-Flow™ ventilation system, and storage features throughout the cab.

Articulated for Maneuverability
“It would be a mistake, though, for someone to believe the MT900B is simply a track tractor on wheels,” Glass insists. “The heavy-duty frame and articulation joint on the MT900B Series were designed and tested to handle even the most rigorous conditions. The 120-millimeter bar axles, for example, are the largest standard axles in the industry.”

The articulation joint is also held together with the largest pin in the industry. Yet, it offers a 42-degree turning radius and 13 degrees of oscillation for excellent maneuverability and ride comfort. All service points can even be accessed without having to articulate the tractor to one side or the other.

Suited for Industrial and Dirt Work
The new Challenger MT900 series tractor is the first tractor designed from the ground up to be rugged enough to compete in the pull scraper market.  With the largest axles in the industry, and the largest articulation joint in the industry, this machine is field ready for tough conditions of the job site.  Couple this powerful tractor to a set of Eject brand pans and you have one of the most efficient earthmoving tools available.

Naturally, the MT900B is available with a wide variety of tire options in single, dual and triple configurations. All models are also available in both Ag and Special Application versions to handle the needs of large-acreage farmers, as well as industrial and scraper operators.
