Light Honing Provides Behind-the-Scene Benefits
If you ask your Yancey Product Support Sales Representative, he'll tell you that promptly repairing hydraulic seal leaks is one of the best means of preventing abrasive wear. But, simply installing new seals isn't always the answer.
If hydraulic cylinder wiper seals are leaking, it means contaminants are getting into the system. One of the things contaminants do is scratch the bore, accelerating wear of the piston seal. This results in internal leaks that silently rob your machine's performance. Light honing prior to new seal installation makes for a complete repair.
Light honing provides two benefits. First, it renews the sealing surface of the cylinder bore by correcting minor scratches and imperfections. Cylinders can be light honed to .010 oversize while still using standard seals. Secondly, light honing corrects minor bore distortion - such as bellmouthing, barreling and tapering. The resulting true bore and proper surface finish are necessary to get maximum life from the new seals and peak performance from the system.
Often, the eye can't pick up these scratches and imperfections. So give your Yancey PSSR a chance to show you how light honing can both detect and correct these problems. And remember, every cylinder worked on by Yancey Bros. Co. receives light honing, even those only being resealed. Check and see if your current hydraulic repair facility provides this service for you!
Your Yancey Product Support Representative will also be glad to explain the Yancey Hydraulic Service's complete offering of cylinder repair options - including Cat Reman Cylinders and Rods - when damage can't be corrected with light honing.
